Our Background

The Circle of Diana is modeled after our parent coven, the Grove of Gaia, led by Lady Annabelle, also in Pittsburgh. With Lady Annabelle's blessings and encouragement, Tammy Overand (former High Priestess of Circle of Diana)
hived off (officially separated) from the Grove of Gaia in 2012 to form the Circle of Diana. Lady A initiated her into 3rd level high priestesshood around the same time. Tammy moved to Florida in the Summer of 2015 and named Faunina the new High Priestess to continue the tradition. The original members of the Circle of Diana were formerly part of the Order of the White Pine, a coven formed under the Grove of Gaia by Lady Annabelle in 2009. Tammy took over leadership of the Order of the White Pine in 2011. We became Circle of Diana when we hived off from Grove of Gaia.

We have inherited a rich history and lineage in the Gardnerian tradition (although like our parent coven, the Grove of Gaia, we consider ourselves eclectic Gardnerian, as our practices branch out considerably from our tradition's original founders.) Lady Annabelle was initiated up to Third Level High Priestess in 1993 by her blood and spiritual sister, Lady Flora of Chicago, founder and High Priestess of the Grove of Aphrodite. Lady Flora was initiated to Third Level by David Cole of London, UK, founder and High Priest of the Coven of Hecate. David Cole was initiated to Third Level by his Aunt Lily Cole. Lily Cole was a student of Gerald Gardner. David Cole passed through the veil in 1989 at 39 years old. In 2008, Rex Hollingsworth, High Priest of Grove of Aphrodite, passed to the Summerlands.

Our Practice

Our goal is to provide seekers with a nurturing space to grow spiritually in the ways of Wicca. Our path guides apprentices and initiates through a deep and focused journey through the 4 quarterly elemental realms, i.e. air in the east, fire in the south, water in the west, and earth in the north. (For more information, see our Process of Study pages.)

We celebrate all sabbats and various esbats, including full, dark, waxing, and waning moons (approximately one esbat per month). We worship both a Goddess and a God, and we celebrate their many different forms.

Ethical practice is a high priority for us, and as such, we pledge to adhere to the Wiccan Rede and respect the threefold law:

Seekers can become students of the Circle of Diana by taking our 9 week introductory course called the Magick and Philosophy of Wicca. This course is also available online from time to time, taught in conjunction with the Grove of Gaia. We welcome new students regardless of race, sexual orientation, or gender. New students must be at least 18 years of age.

All classes do require an exchange of energy in the form of fees. These fees are kept at a reasonable level to assure affordability. The proceeds of these fees help support and maintain the Circle of Diana. For rituals too, there is a suggested donation of $5.00 per ritual. Of course, donations and gifts to the Circle of Diana are always welcome.

Any initiate who desires to depart from the Circle of Diana is expected to participate in a brief formal Leave-Taking Rite of Passage.
